A Really Nice First Degree

Brothers & Friends: The primary responsibility of the AGL's in each masonic district is to maintain the integrity of The Standard Work. We have all experienced ritual that is poorly presented and difficult to watch. Norm and I see a lot of masonic work and we are pleased to report that the quality of ritual in the Oswego District is quite good and getting better. I have not seen any “Going through the Motions” work in some time, a gratifying picture indeed.

This last week, though, I witnessed a first degree that was so superior that I felt that the lodge deserved special recognition. Lake City #127 in Oswego conferred the degree on two new brothers and not only was the floor work and ritual complete and accurate but the presentation outstanding. There were 18 Lake City members in attendance and all chairs were filled. Space prevents me from commenting on each brothers performance but it was obvious that every participant was well rehearsed and took great pride in his work. I would like however, to recognize Pat Fasulo, Ron Randall and Jim Rizzo. These are all new brothers in their respective positions and each a credit to the craft. Pat performed all the Master's work, including the Historical Lecture faithfully and with conviction. Ron's apron presentation, one of a mason's most solemn moments, was given with such presence and emotion as to assure that an indelible impression was made on the brothers both new and old. Finally, Jim was tireless in guaranteeing that there were qualified brothers to cover each job and the end result was surely proof of his success.

If any brother is searching for a “Class of Instruction” he need look no further than the ritual being preformed in Oswego. Our dearly departed Grand Master Bond would be justifiably proud.
