Oswego District AGL article October/2016

Grand Lecturers Convention and some new Initiatives.

Brothers near and far.

The long Hot Summer is passing into memory and Fall is here which means Official Visits by the DDGM, SO and AGL's. It would be great if you could attend the Official Visit for your Lodge and even better if you could make one or two other OV's as well. When Masons meet they Eat so most if not all come with a dinner. Give Freemasonry a chance and maybe make a new friend or two.

The Grand Lecturer's Convention is fast approaching. Our Grand Lecturer puts on a very entertaining and informative show. You will not be sorry you attended. He intends to cover some new ideas for presenting the middle chamber lecture that may help make it more meaningful to the new brothers and easier to confer. The event will be at Central Square with the dinner being prepared by Shawn Tuff, famous for feeding the brothers of Scriba Lodge. Mark down Friday, October the 14th, 6:30 for dinner with the convention to follow. Remember, each lodge is assessed for the meal so it costs you nothing out of pocket to attend. Reservations from the secretary of each lodge to Shawn or myself would be greatly appreciated.

There are a number of new initiatives coming from the Grand lecturer. Shawn and I will be filling in the details at our visits but to wet your appetite, some highlights. First, there is a new, optional, charge known as the Harris Closing Charge to be given at the end of each meeting. Also we will be trying out a new Minimum Proficiency Requirement Program to advance from one degree to the next and following the 3rd degree. Lastly, the District Team will be certifying that each lodge in the district can open and close in due form. I am sure that these new programs will be met with both delight and apprehension but I hope that all of you will at least give them a try.

Finally, do not hesitate to contact either of us with issues or questions and I do hope to see you in Lodge.
