Staff Officer's article for April 2014

Thoughts at the end of my term

Brothers near and far

This will be my last article as Oswego District Staff Officer. At Grand Lodge on May Sixth a new Staff Officer will be formally announced for our District.

It has been a genuine pleasure serving in this office for the last two years. My job was to accommodate the educational needs of the Brothers and hope that you feel I have met those needs. I have received great support from the Oswego District Brethren and I hope you will extend the same courtesy and respect to the new Staff Officer and also the new DD. They will both have a busy two years. These positions require considerable time, effort and sacrifice. Anything we can do as Brothers to help make their jobs a little easier will be appreciated by them and in turn will help them to better serve us.

One concrete step we can take is to get out to their Official Visits. You should make every effort to attend your own lodge's Official Visit and resolve to go to at least one other lodge's visit as well. The experiences you will have traveling to other lodges will really enhance your Masonic life. There are so many interesting men to meet and it's even better if you can get together with a couple of other Brothers from your lodge to make the trip.

Finally, I want to put in one last plug for the Brotherhood Fund. Masons support charities in many ways and only you can decide where best to direct your charitable efforts. The Brotherhood Fund provides you with many options from Military Outreach to Safety ID, from The Masonic Research Lab to Disaster Relief. There is something for almost anyone. The next time you have a few spare bucks Stick them in the envelope you tucked away somewhere or bring them to a lodge meeting and give them to your Brotherhood Chairman. It will make you feel good inside and it will help out someone who hasn't been as fortunate in life as you.

Hope to see you soon in Lodge.
